Saw this posted on the Warlinnen site, thought it was a good idea to let people know about it, so that everybody can let Somerfields know how they feel.
Celtic outrage at Somerfields attitude to Welsh The Celtic League is asking all its National branches to express concern to a British supermarket chain following an incident at their store in Bala, North Wales, last week.
Apparently a shop assistant at the Somerfield supermarket in the town was allegedly told by a manager to stop speaking in Welsh.
An area manager told the woman, "Stop speaking that silly language in front of the customers. There are people who don't understand."
Local councillor Elwyn Edwards has said the incident has certainly taken place although the woman concerned does not want to be identified because she fears for her job.
Discrimination against the various Celtic languages manifests itself periodically but it is unusual for so blatant a case to arise in an area which is a bastion of the Welsh language.
As indicated the League is asking all branches to record their concern to the supermarket chain involved and also ask individual league members to register their concerns.
