William Marrack’s 1897 Statement
This transcript is of the handwritten copy made in 1937 by Thomas Dunstan.

This is a statement written by my Grandfather on April 9 – 1897
Alexander Rowe Valentine Marrack & My father both born in the same parish of Sancreed in a place called Tregonebris was left 5 Estates of land in the Parish of Sancreed, was called Tregonebris, Higher Drift, Lower Drift, Gold Herring & Catchall & House property in to Penzance. My Grandfather had one son & Daughter, which the son was my father. My Mothers name was called Nany Trezise was born in the Parish of Madron in a place called Biswaston in the county of Cornwall. They had five sons, the eldest called Alexander Rowe Valentine Marrack, Richard Marrack, John Marrack, William Marrack & Henry Marrack & six daughters called Caroline Marrack, Nany Marrack, Mary Ann Marrack, Eliza Marrack, Emily Marrack & Elizabeth Marrack. We let the land & went to Penzance to live, we lived into Penzance 4 years, my eldest brother was gone to Australia to see the country to send home an account of the place & to send home the account of the place, he sent home a bad one of the country, then my father came up to Roseland in the Parish of St.Just & bought a farm which cost nearly £3,000, in the end of 4 years my father was took bad & died the time the Queen was into Falmouth Harbour, My Father was carried home in the Parish of Sancreed & was buried in the Methodist burying ground in a Vault in the Parish of Sancreed where I had one little brother put in the same Vault with my Father, 9 years old when he died, Both into heaven. My eldest Brother came home from Australia & got tacked with this country & then left for America where he lived for 19 years & then died. His brother Richard died in Yorkshire, His brother John Marrack died up to Plymouth, My mother died into Penzance & was buried in the cemetery ground. My aunt was buried at the same place, a little way out from Penzance going up to Madron churchtown.
My Fathers Uncle was called John Rowe, lived in the Parish of Paul & there he had two large farms called Tregenis, he had two Sons, one was called John Rowe & the other called Richard Rowe he was a Parson, the elder one was a Doctor who died in America, the younger one was a Parson in Egypt for some time until his health came bad & then returned to England & lived about 3 years & then died & was buried into Paul Church. He had three sisters Emily Rowe Elizabeth Rowe & Iskanna Rowe. I had a relation in Newlyn but they are dead now & Lawyer Marrack, But all dead now, all related cousins, But all dead. Mothers brothers all dead lived into Penzance, used to live in Penzance.
